TALBOT5545

Lacock Abbey
Thursday evening –

My dear Henry

We had a very pleasant journey home – for the Sun came out brightly – and the air was pure & refreshing – Price 1 travelled 2d Class – and the children 2 & I sat in a divided body with an agreeable elderly gentleman – who talked cheerfully about the prospects of the agricultural & commercial interests under the rule of Sir R. Peel 3 – He also gave me an interesting account of what he had saw at the Mint yesterday – and spoke of the wonders of the Electric Telegraph – as improved by Mr Somebody – I forget who.

Mlle Dutscheck 4 was waiting for us in the Hall with Matilda & Charles 5 to both of whom she seems to have been extremely kind in my absence – They certainly have been quite happy by their own account –The plants are arrived in perfect safety – you would have been amused to see the little fingers of Charles & Matilda busily engaged in unlacing the matting – and great was their admiration of the plants when the whole were uncovered! We have placed all in the Library window for the present – I have all the Newspapers of the last few days & am going to peruse them diligently. – I believe I left your Mogg’s London 6 in the little drawing-room which was careless of me.

Your affectionate
Constance –
