Lacock Abbey
Easter day –
My dear Henry
Madamoiselle Dutscheck’s 1 nine months salary amounts to 56 pounds – 25 of which I have paid her – and the remaining £30. she wishes to be remitted to Messrs Stone & Martins 68 Lombard Street 2 – and placed to her account, as she has money already in their hands – Will you please to cause Jones 3 to pay the sum accordingly, with instructions to the Bankers to apprise Mlle Dutscheck thereof at Coedriglau 4– And I will repay you the said £30 – from my funds in the Melksham Bank, when you come home –
Horatia has at length heard from Mlle Amélina 5 – whose silence seems to have arisen wholly from a tedious cold – She sends many kind messages to you & to me & assurances that she is much engaged with her preparations for coming at the time before fixed, namely the end of this month, & that she may possibly be ready a few days sooner – If so she will be welcome, as the coast is clear & she may come whenever it suits her – the sooner, the better. –
I wish you had been here today to enjoy the soft South breeze – more delicious than any we have had since last summer. – charming Easter weather for those poor people who have been shut up in London for the last three months – & who are now pouring forth in search of fresh country air –
You do not write to either of us – Why not? at least a line –
Your affectionate
Constance –
Wright 6 goes up tomorrow to Sackville St 7 – as of course you know.
