Lacock Abbey
Tuesday –
My dear Henry
I have a better account of my Brother 1 this morning – and I hope (if they set out as they hoped to do last Thursday or Friday) that they are now resting at Bordeaux. –
The weather is hot for him – and unluckily heat always disagrees particularly with him – but there is comfort in the feeling that he is approaching better advice – Ht 2 promises to write to me again from Bordeaux. –
You told me you were to visit certain country mansions last Saturday – after which I conclude you sojourned at Tunbridge Wells – I guess you have since returned to London – but wherever you are I fear you must be very hot – Even in our cool shades we feel oppressed today. – But what a glorious Sun for ripening the Corn! – It has certainly made our Strawberries more deliciously sweet that I ever knew them – but on the other hand it spoils the cream that should be eat [sic] with them. –
So Mr Kenrick’s 3 hopes are crushed for one year! – he is still sanguine as to his ultimate success –
Did you engage Caroline 4 to sit for her portrait as we begged you to do? – if not, you must mind to catch her on her return from Osborne 5 –
Your affte
Constance.
