My Dear Constance
A thousand thanks for that beautiful birthday present, your letter, which did me all the good in the world, and made everything appear this morning colour de rose.
I had no time before I left Lacock to produce the Paris bonbons and sweetmeats, & as I am afraid they will spoil from too long keeping I think you had better look for them and produce some of them, a few at a time – You will find Enough for 2 Christmases in some packages in a chest of drawers in the white Room (the Room with yellow windows next my library) – I think you might have some of them for your own desert [sic], & send some to the Bowerbanks,1 & if you like to Mr West Awdry’s Children2 & to Mr Guthrie,3 Mrs Arnold<4> or anybody you can think of worthy of them – Don’t let the children know in what nooks-corner of the house you keep them Pray send my spectacles to me in a letter. They are in a tray on my library table –
God bless you all
your afft
Henry
