TALBOT5934

Lacock Abbey
Sunday May 2d

My dear Henry

We are all very sorry you cannot spare time to come down at present – to breathe some fresh air & do yourself good. In point of the beauties of Spring however you lose nothing by a little delay – for the trees look very like winter – only a few little leaves beginning to shoot forth. There are plenty of nice showers to bring on vegetation if the air were a little warmer – Today is certainly a little milder – but we had a sharp frost Friday night – Wilkins 1 says there is a good prospect of a crop of fruit this year – His early vegetables are very enjoyable – and the whole garden is in perfect order – a pattern of neatness & does great credit to his exertions – I will speak to him tomorrow about the bricks – and also that he is to have a greenhouse, which news I expect will give him great delight –

Yesterday Mlle A 2 & I went to Bath to make arrangements about a piano – and to see Caroline 3 & her flock 4 – It appears that they fully expected us – & were wondering that we had not written to announce our arrival – They all looked well – Ld Mt E. 5 is tolerably so – but we did not see him – Perhaps they will come & lunch here tomorrow – and if they do, I hope it will not pour as it did all yesterday while we were at Bath.

I have not heard again from my Aunts 6 but I conclude they will come tomorrow. –

I forward today a bundle of letters which have dropped in one by one since we came home –

Your affectionate
Constance.
