TALBOT5943

Bath. Feby 19th 1847

Dear Sir,

I am happy to find that Mr Awdry is satisfied with the position of the bridges.

With respect to the substitution of an arch with less headway than I proposed for the most Southerly bridge – any such diminution of headway, would have involved a lengthening of the barrel of the arch and whereby the diminished work in abutments & wing walls would have been compensated for – and any saving in the space of the arch would have been so trifling that I am quite sure the loss & inconvenience to the farmer would have been much greater than the gain to the Coy and therefore I concluded that you would require a greater compensation than the gain to the Coy would allow –

If the space had been diminished from 12 feet to 8– the Coy would save only £7 . 10 –

I remain

Your obed St

<M.?> Ward
