TALBOT5960

Sunday

My Dear Henry

By mistake I believe in my letter yesterday I said the East Terrace at L. Abbey meaning the South. But one is always hurry seeing in this town. Pray send some more of that. I like particularly the Persian lilac & Honey suckle 1 on a grey ground which gives the effect of extremely good shading. Do some more in that same manner.

Likewise some more of the Saints’ head 2 from the old coloured glass window. Lord Cosmo Gordon too is a good one. Most people covet the Mill side etching,3 but it is not a favourite of mine. The fig leaf & peony leaf 4 are beautifully veined. I wish you would do some worked muslin & lace I sent you – the veracity of those is level with the meanest capacity & is consequently popular – people claim “how natural is that bit of lace!” 5.

We heard Mario di Candia 6 (as he now leaves his name) sing last night in the new opera Lucrezia Borgia 7. He was much applauded & encored, but it I think as his voice tho’ beautiful was not so strong as it used to be at Nice. Fanny Strangways 8 arrived to day.
