My dear Henry
I had a pleasant letter from Caroline yesterday concerning a commission I had troubled her with – and she said besides that you were taking such kind care of her! We suppose she would cross yesterday when the weather was most beautiful & bright:– & I hope her journey will continue as prosperously as it begins –
I am not sure whether you might think by my last letter, that I was out of spirits about Ela – today I begin to feel more satisfied – Dr Watson is trying the effect of tonics, which he varies a little according to circumstances – I am very much pleased by the kindness of his manner & his great attention – He thinks there is no disease – that her pains are neuralgic – and that the only thing is to strengthen her cautiously – I think Mr Kenrick had managed her a little carelessly, or she would not have fallen into such a low state. She went yesterday with Mlle A & me to Claverton. & as the family are absent we walked about the garden – The valley looked so very beautiful in the bright sunshine! –
Our three weeks will be up tomorrow & at the end of another (that is tomorrow week) we must return home – shall you meet us there or join us here? – Wednesday evening we mean to be so frisky as to go to a concert – but not alas! to hear a Jenny Lind. –
Mlle A has had another of her wretched headaches but is better now & we have been amusing ourselves with a little shopping today, in spite of the rain – I had a letter from Harriot today with a good account of my Brother. She says she is waiting eagerly for the promised illustrations –
Your affectionate
Constance.
