Lacock Abbey
Tuesday
My dear Henry
You were so very good to think of sending Jones to help us home! It is a great comfort to have a bustling active man to save me all trouble & anxiety – And we came today very comfortably indeed, by the ½ past 4 train, after instating Mlle A in her little lodging on the South Parade – She promises positively to follow us this day week, but I have begged her to act according to circumstances. The week’s rest will do her good – and I shall get a nice rest too. I have the unsociable taste to like being alone sometimes – and as I have lately been overtired & over-anxious I shall very much enjoy a little time to myself. – Still better should I like it if you were here –
We have had two lovely days after the pouring rain of Friday Saturday & Sunday. – I hope Ela will be able to get out here a little more than she could at Bath & I expect to see her improve more rapidly – I had a long talk with Dr Watson yesterday about her & he seems quite satisfied that we are treating her properly & that she is already stronger. –
I had a letter from Horatia on Sunday – dated Varenna Pavia the 15th. She had I will send it you to read & you can send it me back as I must answer it shortly.
Your affectionate
Constance.
