TALBOT6053

Lacock

Tuesday 13th April

My Dear Constance

I am glad to hear there is an additional week’s holidays, no doubt in honour of the Pss Royal’s marriage, for I am not aware of any other Event, to cause rejoicing at Harrow.

Towards the end of the week I am going to Town for a few days, having got some business there, and I will expect Charles here on Saturday the 24th. On his journey he might see Melrose, or something else of interest.

Weather very pleasant today – Capt Gladstone & party came and admired the Cloisters. Mr Awdry has been requested to show our old parchments to the House of Lords next Thursday the 15th when they resume the consideration of the Shrewsbury case. The solicitors on both sides have been at Chippenham copying & making extracts from the old deeds – some of the facts are in favour of Ld Talbots claim and some are against him. In the pedigree he has put forth, he maintains for instance that Charles Talbot youngest brother of Sir John, had no children – But we have found a copy of Sir John’s will in which he leaves an estate in Worcestershire “in trust for Gilbert Talbot son & heir of my brother Charles” – to the great discomfort of Ld Talbots solicitor who must show that no heirs of Gilbert are now known to be alive.

Your affte

Henry
