Sir
The letter I had from you this morning2 is altogether a mistake– I collect from your letter that Mr S. C. Hall is no longer Editor,3 else I assure the mistake would not have occurred. I have never received any payment for seven thousand plates supplied to Mr S. C. Hall,4 but he offered to make me some compensation for that heavy expence by inserting any advertisement that I might wish, gratuitously, which might have done with enough, had he continued to do so occasionally for a longer period, but he soon left off doing so – If payment is now asked for those advertisements, contrary to our agreement, I must of course expect payment for the plates, the expence of which is many times greater, and in fact cannot be estimated at less than a hundred pounds –
I am Sir Yours Truly
H. F. Talbot
