TALBOT6385

Lacock Abbey Friday
Jan 10th 1851.

My dear Henry

I received the enclosed from Messrs Whitley & Osborn this morning – and am delighted with their extremely polite & complimentary style in the prosaic matter of asking payment of their bill – I think you will probably be glad to settle with them while you are in London, as it saves sending cheques on stamped paper – and if you want to refer to their account & wish me to look for it, I will do so.

Mr Jennings has just been here – to announce his resignation this day of his appointment by the board of Guardians to this Union district – He is going to reside at Malmesbury & practise there – and hopes to obtain an appointment from Lord Suffolk as medical officer to the Union in one of their districts – He applied for it yesterday & was supported by Mr Sotheron – but he was asked for other testimonials & wished much to have had one from you – This you could not do for him in London, because tomorrow is the day when the appointment will be given.

Consequently, at Mr Jennings’s earnest request, I have penned something to that effect myself stating that I did so in consequence of your absence – and if my recommendation proves of no avail, it cannot at least injure his cause.

I find I am entitled to a little Album or Prime as annual Subscriber to the Modes Parisiannes. It must be claimed at Madame Frederick’s 40. Albermarle St. should you be passing her door, it would be amiable of you to call & ask for it – Have you seen any Servant likely to suit you? –

Your affectionate
Constance.
