Berlin July 22d 1851
My Dear Constance
I am rubbing up my German after long disuse, and already have been complimented by a professor on my proficiency in the tongue! tomorrow morning I propose to set off towards Danzig – The weather continues of the hottest and brightest description – At the post office here there is a window with a notice “Letters intended for the King will be received here” – This is very gracious of his majesty to invite the correspondence of his subjects! I hope you received my letter of yesterday. In case you did not I will repeat that I wish you not to write to me at Alexisbad but at Cassel (Hesse-Cassel – Germany) instead, which place I shall leave about the 7th August. – I find the post from here to England is much quicker than I supposed. Letters posted at London on a Tuesday are delivered here Thursday – therefore a letter written by you at Grasmere on Monday would be received here Thursday, being only 3 days. – If you write to me on the 29th announcing Charles’s arrival, I shall get it on the 1st August, but I think you had better direct it to Dresden, as I may have left this place before post hour on that day.
Your affte
Henry
