My dear Constance
I am almost overwhelmed by the sad, sad intelligence which has met me at this place. 1 I felt a painful presentiment when I left England, and therefore I begged dear Caroline 2 to write to me frequently, which she did in the kindest manner, but I had received no letter from her since I left Cassel. I feel quite unable to write any more today – hoping soon to see you all
I remain your Affte
Henry
P.S.
I believe I shall not stop more than one day in London but come down to Grasmere on Wednesday evening.
