TALBOT6486

Grasmere
Tuesday Oct 21.

My dear Henry

I have asked Mr Vardon1 to pay us a visit according to your kind suggestion, in one of your recent letters: – and in accordance of with Mr V’s own interest – as it will be so much better for him to be on the spot making enquiries himself respecting the eligibility of removing with his family to Bath. Having a spare place in one of our Carriages and thinking his protection on the road would be an advantage, & his cheerful easy society more agreeable than otherwise (particularly as we mean to make it a sketching journey) we have arranged with him to go with us – It will make him amends for the disappointment in the Wrynose & Wastwater excursion.

He was a little over scrupulous, on our account, & we had some difficulty in getting him to say positively whether he would go best consult his own advantage by going now, or later. But he affects to set all that aside, & thinks only of the pleasure of his visit – I know you will not find him a gêne at Lacock for a few weeks – and his presence will save a deal of writing – We are not forward enough in our packing to start tomorrow, – but will, on Thursday morning at nine o’clock. – The 3 maids with Jones will reach Lacock Saturday – Yesterday there was a Scotch mist – today it is simply foggy, but mild & pleasant. I really hope for fine weather. I mean, expect it after so much rain.

I send you 2 powders in this & more tomorrow –

Your affte

Constance –

We will write – and also enquire for letters at Chester & Shrewsbury. –
