My Dear Constance
I called at Stilwell’s and found that Mr Gaisford paid £100 to Mlle.’s account on the 24th September.
I saw Mr G. yesterday evening, He will come to Lacock on Tuesday – His library is safe though perhaps a few books are lost stolen or strayed in the confusion – The circumstances were altogether extraordinary and I will ask him to relate them to you.
Did you know that Ernestina had been ill and in consequence Caroline begged to be excused her waiting – Ld Mt E- is also poorly and they have taken a house at Bath – I hear a good acct. of Val at Christchurch He has got into an excellent Set, and his mathematical talents are spoken highly of. Mr Gaisford is going on a long and adventurous tour with Mr Richard Long 2d. (now eldest) son of Mr Walter Long – They are to visit Mt Sinai, Petra Jerusalem Asia Minor &c.
I hope to come Monday evening by the express. Will you send the carriage to meet me at Chippm. at ¼ before Seven,
Yours affly
Henry
