Dear Talbot,

I am much obliged by your letter. I have found another Courier who is strongly recommended, but am not the less beholden to you.

I am much obliged, also, for your Assyrian memoirs. The subject is a very curious one, but I have not gone into it. We have, as you say, a Babylonian Cylinder in our College Library, but it is now in the hands of Sir H. Rawlinson at the British Museum. He has promised to send it back accompanied by a translation. When we have seen the translation we shall be quite ready, I do not doubt, to do what may be most likely to make this monument unique to archæology. It is [illegible] [fine?] [illegible] as of Sir John Malcolm.

Have you any advice or instructions to give. We are about to visit Rome?

Believe me Yours very truly
W Whewell

H. Fox Talbot Esqr
