TALBOT6572

Lacock Abbey
Monday March 1st

My dear Henry

I received one letter from you yesterday: and another today, by the morning mail, having sent over to Chippenham a messenger with Charles’s missing shoes. – I am very sorry that you had such an exceedingly cold unpleasant journey – but you would have fared no better on any of the subsequent days – indeed I think that the weather has greatly increased in Severity – There is nothing for it, but resignation & submission to the reign of the March winds. Charles wrote a nice little letter (very short) to Ela on the day after his arrival – and I dare say I shall soon hear from Mrs Williams, especially as I wrote to her again yesterday on the occasion of sending off the Shoes. I don’t think it of paramount importance to the boys’ comfort that the country around Dummer should be beautiful – the merits of the play ground stand foremost – of course – I am glad that you are become a convert to travelling by the road – but 30[?] miles wd necessitate a halt, if travelling with the same pair of horses.

Did you raise that curious unknown plant from seed? – Of course it will be figured in one of the botanical works, & a name given to it –

Your affectionate
Constance.

I wish you would try & get some more Lions on larger paper – I shall have time now to paste them in the books – and it ought to be done. –
