Sir

I herewith forward 3 Steel Plates having a ruled ground upon each

You must be careful not to scratch or you will have a bite line for every scratch. any [sic] kind of turpentine varnish stops out nicely. the [sic] best is common Brunswick black.

If you do not make a satisfactory effort the first time these plates can be refaced and a new ground put upon, but in this event you will not forget to send me back the case for I do not know so safe a plan of sending them

Dont make the solution too strong and 3 minutes ought to make a dark tint

They are ruled of different widths that you may more readily become acquainted with the action

Most respectfully [illegible]
Geo Barclay
