My dear Constance
Mrs Traherne has sent a valuable packet of old letters and journals1 - Please keep them safely till I come to Bath. She ought to have inquired first whether I wished for them at the present moment. I am so sorry to hear from Charles 2 that your cold continues. I have a great regard for Dr Fowler and his uncle before him, & am glad you will see him - Next summer I hope he will spend a day or two with us at the Abbey. Charles has told me all about Goodwin 3 - I suppose he cannot be moved now as he would resist it his reason being partly restored. Charles had a very wet day today, he travelled with the High Sheriff, Mr Lowndes 4 of Castle Combe and had a long talk with him - He said Mr Scrope 5 had left everything behind when he sold Castle Combe - all his geological specimens, & c. which Mr L. means to present to the Museum of the Devizes Society. 6
Your affte
Henry
