TALBOT6720

Clarges St. Monday –

My dear Henry

We expected you back again in Clarges Street today, which I believe is the reason of nobody writing to you – And as George went down on Wednesday, you would know that we were all florishing up to that date. On the whole it has been much less hot since you left London. Yesterday we walked about for 2 hours or more in the Zoological Gardens – an which occasion I was uncomfortably cold, and regretted I had not put on a thicker shawl. This morning the temperature is equally cool – but Saturday was rather hot in the middle of the day, when we went to the Exhibition of the Royal Academy in Trafalgar Square.

I think we have filled up our time pretty well between morning & evening engagements. On Friday we saw the French Exhibition – on Monday Evening the British Gallery Pall Mall, for wh Ld Lansdowne gave us tickets. Wednesday we went to a déjeuner at Mr Vincent’s at Thornwood lodge Kensington, wh precluded our seeing the Flower show in the Regent’s Park – especially as we had to dress rather early for the Concert at St. James’s hall for the benefit of the Royal Academy of Music. The concert began at nine – and the company in general entered at ½ past 8. – We started soon after eight and were a long time getting up to the doors on account of the line of Carriages. Thursday was our Almack’s night – Friday an excellent concert at Lansdowne House – This was a very busy week, although the Play for Tuesday dropped through, from want of sufficient energy on my Brother’s part in securing places – So we dined with them en famille instead. – I had to decline an invitation to dinner from Ld & Lady Ilchester for last Saturday – and I understand that the note which I now enclose to you in another invitation for Wednesday or Saturday next – I think it will best for you to write your own answer direct from Lacock – I cannot go dine there on Wednesday, because we have another déjeuner at Mr Vincent’s – And the later one stays at those things the pleasanter it is. – I want you to consider whether you will like to be one of our party at a fête at Cremorne Gardens – It is intended exclusively for the Grand Monde – and I have obtained 4 vouchers from Lady Shrewsbury which must be exchanged for tickets not later than Thursday I enclose the Prospectus – I asked for a gentleman’s voucher for you, in case of your liking to go. They say that each party should have an equal number of ladies and gentlemen. – The Mundy’s are going –

Your affte
Constance
