TALBOT6722

Greta Bank

Friday 19th

My dear Henry,

From the cessation of letters addressed to you, one would think your correspondents were aware of your change of residence. If any come for you today, they shall be forwarded with this – as I intend sending down again before the post goes out. – I have been much pleased with Mr Valpy, on meeting him about the approaching Confirmation – He is exceedingly kind & gentle – and at the same time treats the subject in a serious with the impressive seriousness which it deserves – We expect him to call again this morning. – When he will bring me word of the correct time and day for Ambleside, which we all prefer to Cockermouth; and also communicate the Bishop’s answer to his letter. – Being out of the diocese of Chester, he considered it necessary to ask the Bishop’s leave – This will of course be granted. – Mr Valpy will also write to the Clergyman of Ambleside to take care of us – “to place them”, as he expresses it – And we intend to sleep at Grasmere, or Ambleside on the previous day – writing to secure rooms – There is much mist still hanging over the mountains, the same as when you left us. – Mr Wilson says the air will not clear permanently until there has been rain – Yesterday we took a good walk in spite of the cold – and visited the High Nest on the Ambleside road – A little cottage which is to be let. – formerly occupied by the Curate of St John’s in the Vale. – We came home by the Druidical Circle & Field side.

We hope you find yourself comfortable at Lacock. – And not more solitary than suits your business there – We hope, (I mean I am desired to ask you to bring us a box of ripe apricots from Lacock, also some figs if they have yet ripened – though I don’t know how they should ripen with so little Sun –

Your affectionate

Constance –

Charles is sitting by me, writing Latin Verses –

Seeing the enclosed was a printed paper. I took off the envelope – because it was of an inconvenient Shape –
