My Dear Constance
I remember you particularly enquired after the Mt Sinai Cypress amidst the general destruction of our evergreens. It looks killed, but is not, beneath the bark it is quite green. I should be sorry to lose it as a souvenir, and an interesting plant to have.
Your hair chain is repaired and I will bring it with me, and that puts me in mind to tell you that your beautiful long hair that was cut off in the year 1835 is very carefully preserved, and is in a perfect state of preservation, along with a hair chain made of it, which you gave me. I have been looking at them this afternoon.
I think I will not bring down to Cumberland on this occasion a copy of the book given to me by the Commissrs of the Great Exhibn on account of its great weight. The box is nearly as much as a man can lift, & as I have other luggage I think it wd be too much to take at once. I intend to leave this for London at 11 tomorrow morning.
Your affte
Henry
