My dear Henry
Goodwin starts by the Mail to Penrith at ½ past 2 today – so that you will see him almost as soon as you receive this letter. I am glad you did not want him before. – I have received your two letters this morning – They were brought to the House by a new Postman & from this time, Mr Crosthwaite’s new letter Carriers, 2 in number, will bring letters daily in the morning & call again between 1 & 2 o’clock for letters to be posted on to London. This will be a great convenience; both saving our own daily messenger & enabling us to answer letters by return of post – There are none to forward to you today, but yesterday I sent you 2 packets. – Thank you very much for your present of Sir David Brewster’s book – you see I had had the indiscretion to open it without leave and Mlle Amélina has already begun to read it. But I will keep it for you to write my name yourself. – I want so much to know how you passed Stye Head, but I suppose you have not time to tell me.
This morning Miss Steward will give a Music lesson of to Rosd & Matilda – and this evening Mrs Spedding has asked us to drink tea at Mirehouse – as she has a small party & music – We intend to go, with the exception of Ela who feels herself a little tired – Indeed the carriage cannot conveniently hold more than 4. – I have written you a shocking scrawl. Pray excuse
Your affectionate
Constance.
