My Dear Constance
I propose to reach London the 27th, go down to Lacock the 29th, sleep at Basingstoke on the 30th, where I shall meet Mr Williams and Charles on the morning of the 31st and bring him on with me to Greta bank <sic> by way of Reading Oxford and Birmingham – I wish Goodwin to meet me in London on the 27th or 28th at Cox’s hotel: unless you happen to give a fête exactly at that that time, in which case you will not be able to spare him & I must manage as well as I can without him. Please to direct to Athenæum Club.
The heat of the weather has become something tremendous (all the better for the harvest & vintage) This great heat commenced on Wednesday & this is the 4th day of it – at 5 in the afternoon it moderates & the evenings are delightful – so are the mornings before 8 oclock –
Adieu
Yours affly
Henry
