Tell Charles I expected to have found “all cakes” on my breakfast table this morning, and that I found “no cakes,” and I daresay he will understand –

I do not think my business in Town will detain me long at the present moment – I have abandoned my intention of petitioning the Privy Council to prolong the duration of my patent, which will therefore expire next month. I think I may be able to return on Monday evening.

Suppose you send the little carriage to meet me at Chipp^m at 7 oclock.

I am sorry that Lord L’s note ¹ announcing a visit from himself & L^d Somers ² yesterday sh^d have missed me – I have written to say so.
