TALBOT7181

Lacock Thursday 27 Septr

My Dear Constance

I forward you today a letter with the Keswick postmark. I never recollect so beautiful a month of September, since we parted at the Bridge of Allan I have not had a single shower of rain but almost invariably brilliant sunshiny days – All yesterday & today the sky was without a single cloud, & the air is quite warmed like summer. We have full moon shining all night with frost & ice in the morning –

I have received two letters from you since you reached Dunkeld which have given me very great pleasure as the place appears to please and suit You all as I hoped it would –

I hear there were two Lacock men engaged in the last battle at Sebastopol one of them was killed, he was the son of Thomas Humphreys a weaver, the other was wounded and lost his hand his name was Joseph Jones his mother has been asking Wilkins daily to read the newspaper for intelligence having heard that her son’s regiment was engaged – Today Wilkins was able to see the list and also a letter arrived from the soldier himself.

Adieu Your affly

Henry
