TALBOT7208

My dear Henry

We like your Placard very much & conclude it was affiché in the High street & Big Streets of the village of Laycock & Hamlet of Notton. Better accounts to day from Dorset, 3 rioters 1 taken at Winfrith near Moreton 2 & 15 at Castle Hill near Melbury, 3 or rather near Minterne. Everybody says Bowood 4 is full of Police Officers but Louisa 5 denies it & says it is only garrisoned by the Old Porter, Housekeeper & housemaids. I met Sir Richard Vyvian 6 last night at Lady Dudley Stuart’s, 7 he seems equally indisposed towards the last & the present Ministry. Louise Frampton, 8 Theresa, &c &c set off in such a violent hurry they had not time to pack up, and have brought no cloathes [sic] with them, which at present is a great inconvenience to them, tho’ they are in a place where it may be remedied. Lord L. 9 gives his first Cabinet dinner to day, & as Ladies are excluded, [illegible] dine here. Last night Caroline 10 posed for one tableau, it was Dante & Beatrice 11 of which you possess a very good print. Horatia 12 was likewise in one, it was Rebecca shewing the jewels to Rowena. She was the latter as you may suppose. Lady Emily Butler 13 was a Madonna in a Shrine with two Italian peasants praying to her. Mrs Fox Lane was Judith & Henry Fox (who is just come to England) acted the head of Holofernes. Besides we had an Improvisata to whom we gave the subject of the discovery of America by Columbus. It was altogether like a foreign House, so many languages spoken.
