TALBOT7221

Lacock
10th Feb.

My dear Constance

George 1 was unluckily taken ill yesterday morning with a violent headache which seems to have the characters of the brow ague – Both Mr Kenrick 2 and the village doctor attend him, he has had 6 leeches on – the doctor says it is a neuralgic affection, but it may perhaps be only rheumatism. The cause of illness is not known, it may be exposure to draughts on the railway, though there has been no particular exposure to them. We hope he will be better in a day or two. He remains in bed.

Mr Kenrick has not been well himself – His son 3 has joined his regiment at Walmer near Dover, and likes his profession amazingly altho’ he had an attack of fever which prevented his sailing for the Crimea until another opportunity occurs – He has been appointed instructor to the regiment in shooting with the Minie rifle, 4 which surprised me in so young an officer, but Mr K. says he is a remarkable shot – I am glad my application to Lord Hardinge 5 turned out so well –

Adieu

Your affte
Henry
