TALBOT7233

Sunday Feb 24

My Dear Constance

I hope you received my letter enclosing the good report of Charles – I wrote to Matilda yesterday so that I have not much to say today – We had most lovely weather here today, all the spring plants are coming up fast, and the Forsythia is beginning to open its flowers against the South wall in the Courtyard – It is early for it – next to it stands Pyrus Japonica also in flower. I was very much obliged by your writing me a letter on Friday afternoon when you must have been so tired with your walk and visit to Holyrood. I am glad you chose so fine a day for it. Did you see the gallery of bad pictures of Scottish Kings? they were painted by contract at so much a head – the resemblances are not warranted. I think the Pretender held his court in that gallery.

Adieu

Your affte
Henry

I think of coming the first week in March. You say nothing in your last about the parties you have been to, which I like to hear about.
