TALBOT7243

4 Athole Crescent

March 9th

My dear Henry

I imagine that your next letter will fix the day for your coming to us – We have the most uninterruptedly fine weather that I can remember – People say that there is fear of mischief to the garden crops &c from everything being so forward – and they dread the check that must inevitably come later. – Ela & Rosamund have both written to you & left me little to say. I have received heaps of compliments about our party – some of them perhaps deserved – but even its defects became so many merits in the eyes of our too indulgent acquaintances – We had not people enough to fill our large rooms – which defect would be avoided another time by asking more – But everybody had been so crushed in some of the salons of their friends on one or two pervious nights, that they were happy in having an ample space here, not only to breathe, but to sit down & rest themselves. I believe Rosamond wrote you a full acct of the party, so I will say no more. For a first essai on my part, I think it went off wonderfully well. – We have engagements for this coming week – but I think the following, (Passion week) will be left, as it ought to be, quite blank. – This will greatly falilitate facilitate our preliminary steps for our departure on the 27th. We have a gay party in view for the 26th and have declined a dinner for the 27th.

I enclose a little bill which George is requested to pay at Marion’s – Will you give him orders to do so? – and also to get my Album on <Priene?> from Delizy – which he failed to get on a previous occasion – Although I don’t want it here, yet if you come straight from London, I suppose he will have to bring it on. – We have all continued surprisingly well through the winter – and your Girls have been & are, among the most blooming young ladies at the evening parties. – We are reading Col. Hamley’s book of the Campaign of Sebastopol. It is very interesting, & not too long.

I am delighted that Charles is getting on so well – I dare say he feels sure of his remove at Easter. Rosamond had a letter from him yesterday. – They have been to hear the Messiah, which must have been a great treat to the Boys –

Your affectionate

Constance. –

I had a letter from Mrs <Spadding?> to ask about what day we should be going to Greta Back – I told her the 27th. –
