TALBOT7262

Lacock

Wednesday May 14th

My Dear Constance

I have given up the idea of paying a little visit to Paris at present, as I believe we have almost settled to spend next winter there; –

I propose therefore to leave this on Saturday and return to Gretabank, seeing parts of North Wales and Yorkshire by the way, for this is a time of year when I do not like to be shut up in a Town, but rather to see something of the face of nature –

If I am a week on the journey this plan would bring me to Gretabank on the 23d. You spoke of leaving on the 29th therefore George would be in time to help in packing up. I will enquire for letters at the Post office at Chester, therefore you can write if inclined.

Lackham is advertised for sale by auction. I hope we shall obtain a pleasant new neighbour! But perhaps they will fail to sell it It is not a very taking property. The new church is rising on Bowden Hill.

Old Mr Paley is residing at Clifton & talks of returning to perform duty here! Mrs Paley died not long ago and that induced him to quit Yorkshire –

I have got last 2 vols of Moore’s Memoirs (the bookseller send <sic> them of his own accord) I will leave them here as I don’t suppose you are anxious for them.

Adieu

Your affte

Henry

Weather very showery and seasonable for the garden –

I hope Ela recd my letter with the flowers.
