Chester,
Sunday
My Dear Constance
I left Lacock yesterday morning at 10 and arrived here at ½ past 8 in the evening – The weather was very unfavourable – Today is as bad. I think of visiting Conway tomorrow –
I found your letter here enclosing Ela’s. As she is an admirer of Calceolarias tell her we have got a most curious new kind at Lacock – It is an entirely new species, I think it very pretty, though it would not produce any great effect in a flower show. It is called C. f violacea, and its flowers have the shape of bells – There are good auriculas in the garden, but whether they came from Cumberland I do not know.
It is now pouring with rain and will not mend today, hardly tomorrow – the wind keeps from a cold quarter.
Adieu
Your affte
Henry
