Dear Sir,

What I published about the Tiglath Pileser cylinder will be found in the Athenæum for 1853 p. 892, 3 & it is followed in the latter pages by Sir H Rawlinson’s views about it, at that time. How far he has modified them since, I know not; but they differ widely from my views.

I cannot be at the meeting when the packets are opened. I suppose you will be there. I think it would be highly desirable that some arrangement as to the publication of the translations (or of selected parts of them) together should be made; & that before the packets are opened. I mean to stipulate that my translation shall be returned to me, unless the Council will undertake a publication of them all together.

Perhaps, I may be at the meeting on the 6^th June; but I do not think I can leave this till the beginning of next month at soonest
