My Dear Constance
The weather is very hot and rather indisposes one to exertion of any kind – I have made enquiries about Houses & have heard of one in N. Wales which might do, it is a gentleman’s seat to be let cheap for 3 months, with extensive grounds & gardens in a hilly picturesque country 2 miles from a town – The agent knows the place and declares it is very pretty – Two small lakes or sheets of water in the vicinity – I am to enquire more particulars of the agent tomorrow – There must be many rural drives & walks there. On the other hand how would you all like a little trip to Lucerne in Switzerland for a couple of months. What made me think of it was taking up Bradshaw’s Continental railway guide by which I saw that the railway was now open all the way to Lucerne. The time required is 20 hours from Paris, or rather say 3 days of 7 hours each. There is a branch also open to Berne – I had not heard of these facilities before & suppose they only began this season – A château near the lake would be easily procured & I shd not mind the trouble of returning with Charles when his holidays end – It is getting hotter I think, so adieu – I enclose a letter from Dunkeld
Your affte
Henry
