TALBOT7439

Lacock Wedny Evg 19 Aug.

My Dear Constance

I hope you had a good journey to Ramsgate – The day was very fine and warm – at Blackwater a youth got in all radiant with joy at having passed his examination at Sandhurst that morning whereby he was sure of a commission in the Army “in the same regiment as his brother” “Many were turned back” – not so our little hero, who was proud of his success – At Reading I met Miss Hughes of Devizes a friend of Mrs Moore’s. She told me that Dr Brabant 1notwithstanding his age took her and one or two more friends last winter to Rome & Naples & Pæstum – a pretty long tour; yet she seemed almost overpowered with her own journey that morning from Sandgate (near Folkestone) – We have brought the Heath safely home – got home at ¼ past 8 as it was getting dusk

Your affte
Henry
