My dear Papa

I write to day to send you a bill book, & I have underlined all our house. I am glad our almonds answered so well. They will be tolerably high when I come home. Ive got hold of a book here with some Electrical experiments in it. And [illegible deletion] I remember that you said the nob at the back of our machine was negative, & you know it is insulated. Well in this book the man connects this negative nob to the ground by means of a brass chain which perhaps is the reason our sparks were so feeble Now when you put your hand on the rubber our sparks increased & perhaps that was because you answered the purpose of a brass chain.

Goodbye Dear Father – Your affectionate son
