My dear Henry
Your charming flowers and plants arrived in very good order, having been most beautifully packed Charlotte sent to Cardiff for the basket as we feared they might be delayed there – (I had omitted telling you that St Fagans is the parcel station it is close by) As soon as it holds up I intend to go out & plant some of the things in the Garden here. I have already been busily employed in potting one or two to be ready to remove to Penrice without doing them any harm – I hope the Uvularia will not resent being taken up in flower! I am very fond of it but have none at Penrice. The Pachysandra is an old acquaintance I guess with a new name! The plants of Silene look very flourishing & I hope in due time they will flower here as well as at Penrice Is the Sedum what you used to call your table cloth we had it formerly I know. – We admire the Cantua very much I had never seen it before it must be very handsome indeed, the Templetonia looks like a Kennedia to me it must be a fine Shrub I found its picture in a work of Laddiges and as I see it is said to strike freely I shall put in the bits you sent! the Gentian is quite a new one to us & has a singularly coloured flower & the Akebia C. likes particularly. – I do not like the Fuschia [sic] you sent there are several of the sort at Margam some brighter coloured than yours, but they do not suit my ideas of a fuschia [sic] & I wish they had another name! – Chrisr takes all his party to Town for the Season today. Jane is to go up from Torquay to the Hotel next door to Chrisr’s House for a week one of her Daughters accompany her. the rest remain at Torquay for the present. Lucy has not had a good winter there she has been out, only in a close carriage or chair. –
Uncle Wm sent me the enclosed one day it is sadly broken but perhaps you may like to see it, as it is curious I suppose, the purple colour is all I understand! – Have you the Geranium Wallichianum? it was a great favorite of my dear Mothers & I found 2 or 3 seeds the other day so I shall enclose them. we have a healthy plant or two at Penrice
Your affte coz
Mary
