TALBOT8209

Oakfield
Friday Oct 5th

My dear Henry

We have just received our boxes of fruit – will you tell Wilkins if you happen to see him? – but I will write to him myself tomorrow to point out an error in the packing – There was not too much weight of fruit on the top of some fine Peaches, which crushed them. –

I enclose an advertisement which is worthy of notice, because the applicant is not particular as to the County where his residence is to be – nor does he mind whether it is with or without land. He seems accommodating. He will either purchase or rent – furnished or unfurnished.

Our storm somewhat abated yesterday – but came on again at night as bad as ever – It will damage the crops, that were being gathered in before the rain began. There was a great deal still standing in shocks out in the fields – and I believe some still uncut. Our kitchen range has been re-set – we shall see now how it works. It is a pity Mrs Spedding did not have a competent person to it at first.

I enclose a note which will shew you that I asked at Greta Bank about things that Charles might want at Cambridge. I wish I had thought or known of these things before I came away from Lacock, because there are many things articles there in the reserve China closet that we could spare for his use. I will try to put a few down that he may institute a search after he gets to Lacock. But it is doubtful whether Thomas will think himself competent to pack them! – What day do you expect Charles to be with you?

I have an account from Margate today – not quite so good as the last – but this was to be expected.

I hope you received my letter yesterday with the inclosures –

Your affectionate
Constance.
