Jany 19/1861

Sir/

You will see from a Note that I have enclosed in the parcel with plates fm Greigs the Engineers, that they cannot Case Harden the steel from its thinness, this I was doubtful of from the beginning as all the plates I can get hardened were of a very thick description, fully ½ an inch thick.

I am Sir yours respectfully
William Banks
