In the 1^st place, it is not improb that another Com^py may be form^d w^th a view to work my invⁿ commerc^ly, & as my method is so much less cheaper than M^r Pretsch’s as to cost in respect of the cost of production you w^d be placed at a disadvantage – In order to form metal blocks to print from like wood cuts, a certain amount of relief is required in the lines. This M^r Pretsch obtains by electrotypy, ^{if I am not mistaken} but I obtain a _^^much more des^able amount of relief without the exp^se & trouble of tht process. It is true I remember that when y were here you only saw some _^^{of my} shallow engravings, but those are for copperplate printing

I do not th^k I asked y too much for th at all unusual terms for th lic^se – In fact I am not v^y anxious to give a license and it is only to oblige only do so to oblige, because for the reason I have ment^d it might eventually be a disadvantage to me _^^{& might be} _^^{k an obstacle} in to the formatⁿ of another Com^py

There are some things I should wish you to consider before you go to any expense in forming a Company ¹

In the first place, it is not improbable that another Company may be formed with a view to work my invention ² commercially, and as my method is so much less cheaper than M^r Pretsch’s ³ as to cost in respect of the cost of production you would be placed at a disadvantage – In order to form metal blocks to print from like wood cuts, a certain amount of relief is required in the lines.
