London
Easter Monday
My dear Constance
Spring has now begun in these parts, today was very warm, quite oppressive but as it was cloudy all the middle of the day I should say that it was a perfect day for the great Volunteer Review at Brighton.
All the squares are coming out green. I have been over the Building again today. I never saw so many objects of different kinds together before. As you walk along, the most opposite things meet your eye. Here a case of delicate instruments or the slightest fabrics, next you come upon a lot of enormous cannon, so nicely polished as to look beautiful.
My engravings have been put up but they want me to send the remainder as soon as possible. Please to send them by passenger train to the Athenæum.
William invites me to Melbury next Friday I shall not be able to go quite so soon as I want to see my things all put up right so as not to have to return through Town. I walked home part of the way in order to increase my geographical knowledge in the unknown regions of South Brompton but I got tired during my perambulation.
We had a very good sermon on Easter Day at St James’s, but on Good Friday a very poor one, by a different Clergyman who seemed to have nothing to say – I hope to hear from you tomorrow morning –
Your affte
Henry
Is Tilly returned from the Country?
When did Charles leave you?
