My dear Henry
When you are at Melbury with Uncle William I hope you will take the opportunity of mentioning Mr Blomfield again, as he more than half promised to present him with one of the numerous livings in his gift – in case of anything suitable becoming vacant. I dare say you would have recollected it – as we were speaking of it so recently – but I thought it best to make sure by reminding you at the moment –
We hear from Speddoch that Tilly has been laid up with an Influenza cold, so as to keep her room for several days – but she is recovering now, and has asked for your address as she says she owes you a letter. – Our weather has again deteriorated: yesterday being raw and wet – and today though much finer, is chilly, and the wind has turned to the East – but everything is getting beautifully green –
Monie is extremely busy tending her chickens – Today has brought out a new brood – making the fourth. – Mr Grieve was here on Thursday – enjoying a holiday in the country – it being Feast-day at Edinburgh – I was very glad to see him, as he had not been here for a long time: and he was exceedingly obliging about some little matters that he had to look into for us –
Mlle Amélina’s cold is better
Love from all – & from your affectionate
Constance.
