TALBOT8572

Sir

I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter and the engravings for which please accept my thanks. 1

If it be practicable, as I think it will be, I propose that my article shall be illustrated with specimens of photoglyphy, photozincography & photoxylography. 2 I venture therefore to ask you if you can favour me with a plate or two, engraved by your process to show the public of what your invention is capable. I have an idea that I could get a matrix from your plate by a patent process from which a cast in metal might be taken capable of being used in printing along with type. If I succeed in this the value of your invention would, it seems to me, be materially increased. I should not like to issue as a specimen of your process a print similar to those issued with the Photoc News3 if it can be avoided. The Chamber of Deputies 4 appears a favourable specimen and if you will send me that and any others which you may think do your invention justice I will for my part do my best to make it known as widely as it merits.

I have an appointment at the topographical department of the War office tomorrow in respect to Sir H. James’s 5 invention, and I am desirous of finishing the article out of hand, so that I shall be obliged by an answer from you at your earliest convenience

I am Sir Yours faithfully
Geo Lumley
