TALBOT8872

32 St James’s place
Friday evening. September 16.

My dear Father.

I went to the gate of the British Museum today where I found the required information placarded up. The Museum is now open. It is closed from the 1st to the 7th of September inclusive, and from the 1st to the seventh of 2 other months in the year, so if you come now you will be all right. I got a letter from Tilly 1 today in which she speaks of much rain in Dumfrieshire We have had heavy storms here – There was a very heavy one this morning rather early – I took a railway journey to-day from Charing Cross to Greenwich where I had never been, and saw Greenwich Hospital. There is a hill with pretty situations for building worthy of better buildings than it is getting. A great deal of building is going on there and also between Deptford & London, where there are slll still some arable fields to be seen. It is remarkable how much speed they get up on this line where the stations are so close together & also how quick they stop the train. Greenwich Hospital is what I should call a fine building without being very interesting. Let me know when you are coming as I will perhaps ask you to bring a book or two such as Macaulay’s History Vol 2. 2

Your affect son
Charles.
