Stevens’s Hotel
2d October 1820
My Dear Mr Feilding,
We were 8 hours and a half crossing, and landed a little after midnight, rather sharp set as you may suppose. The night was mild, & the vessel had but little motion, else we should have had terrible work to get the women into the boat, which as it was, was no small operation. We left Dover by the coach at ½ past 10 in the morning, & had a very pleasant drive to London, the day being delightful. The Italian witnesses had all written their names in the book at the customhouse at Dover. I had a great mind to copy the list – They were received with great applause at Dover, & a band of music accompanied them out of the town. I have put your letters in the post. I did not make use of Capt Bushells 1 letter, finding I should have enough without it.
Yours ever afftly
