PHOTOGRAPHIC ESTABLISHMENT.

103 PRINCES STREET.

EDINBURGH

27 July 1865

Dear Sir

On my return I find your specimens of photographic Engraving which I think are excellent, and further experiment I have no doubt will render the process still more perfect. – what is wanted is delicacy in the half tones and depth in the shadows – these I should think could be easily given by the hand of the engraver, but what of course wd be most desirable is that all shd be attained by your process – without any after touching –

I wish you had given the Editor of the journal of photography a plate of your own portrait from one of my negatives<.> It wd have been so much better in an artistic point of view & so much more in keeping with our art than the wretched wood cut they put forth.

I shall be glad to send you a glass portrait of the Lord Provost and one or two negatives of a smaller size for your experiments<.> I hope to be able to manage this by next week – We are very busy just now the weather is so fine –

I am

Dear Sir

Yours truly

John Moffat
