My dear Sir

Your recommendation of M^r Oakeley ¹ naturally carried much weight & I therefore showed your letter to several of the Electors.

You have probably learned before this that he is the successful Candidate & is now the Professor of Music.

The Election has caused some popular outcry, Hullah having been the favourite Candidate. But the Majority of the Professors are well satisfied & the Minority will receive M^r Oakeley with kindness, so that I have no doubt he will soon satisfy the public that his appointment is a good one.

Kindly give my best remembrances to M^rs Fox Talbot & your family
