Dabton
December 2d
My dear Henry
Observing that Patterson is urgent for the settlement of his account, Rosamond thought it best to forward it to me here – As far as my memory can be trusted, it is correct; but I will compare it will my memorandums which are at Edinburgh, together with the receipts for the former portions of the bill – If I find the charges correct, will you like me to pay it? otherwise I a considerable delay must occur before you can transmit a cheque on Coutts for the purpose – and as Mr Patterson has been civil in giving us long credit, I think we ought to make no difficulty in obliging him at this time – Let me have your sanction by the first post to Edinburgh after you receive this, and I shall get it on Wednesday morning. We intend to be in Gt Stuart St on Tuesday, as I have already said.
Mrs Maxwell is spending the day with us here at Dabton. Miss Clark has been here since Wednesday and stays till after we go – I wd have preferred having Matilda a little more to ourselves – Old Mrs Ewart is to dine here today, and Dr Dixon, who made a fortune in China, came yesterday to stay till Monday. –
I was glad to hear that the shooting had enabled Charles to send a large supply of Pheasants to Edinburgh, as well as 3 Birds to Aunt Newton. –
Your affectionate
Constance.
The wind is rather cold today, but the weather continues fine. –
The Cows here have been ailing with colds, which put us all in a fright; but they seem to be getting better so we hope it was nothing of the Rinderpest character.
