TALBOT9817

Dep. of Oriental Antiq

October 25th 1871

My dear Sir

I send you the completion of your unbound copy of Assurbanipal, a copy bound and my pamphlet on the syllabary –

You kindly undertook if necessary to advance another £25 towards the expence of Assurbanipal My printers bill for Assurbanipal and the syllabary is now in and amounts to £233 of this £150 is paid by Mr Bosanquet and £25 by yourself <ill. del.> so that I have now oweing £58 and I should feel greatly obliged if you could assist me to any extent in the matter.

In my preface to Assurbanipal I have acknowledged that I am entirely indebted to yourself and Mr Bosanquet for the means of publishing my work, I have now given up publishing as it is so expensive and cannot ever repay, I have only one book at press with translations of the early Babylonian inscriptions and when that is complete I shall be clear

Yours respectfully

George Smith

H. Fox Talbot Esq
